Scottish salmon production rose 3% to 197,836 tonnes in 2025
Scotland’s 2025 fish-farm survey recorded a 3% rise in Atlantic salmon output to 197,836 tonnes, while rainbow trout production fell 56% to 3,592 tonnes after a major producer was acquired.
The Scottish Government’s annual survey, based on returns from all active authorised fish-farming businesses, recorded 197,836 tonnes of Atlantic salmon production in 2025. That was 5,836 tonnes, or 3%, more than in 2024. Direct employment in seawater salmon production rose 4% to 1,410 people, while mean output was 140 tonnes per worker.
Rainbow trout production fell by 4,579 tonnes, or 56%, to 3,592 tonnes. The report attributes most of the decline to the acquisition of a major rainbow-trout producer by a salmon producer. The survey reports wet weight at harvest and excludes processing and marketing staff from the seawater salmon employment count.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters.
