Story details
Olive presses in Al-Jouf began receiving this season’s harvest and processing the fruit into oil in October, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on 20 October. The olives come from both major agricultural projects and small-scale farmers. The report describes the season as reinforcing the region’s position as one of the Kingdom’s leading olive and olive-oil producers.
At the Al-Jawbah facility described by SPA, olives are cleaned and washed, kneaded, and separated into oil and water before the oil is purified and packaged. Bassam Alowaiesh, head of the Al-Jouf Olive Producers Association, said the region accounts for approximately 80% of olive-oil production in northern Saudi Arabia. SPA did not state the reference year or total production volume, so the percentage cannot be treated as an annual output figure.
