Story details

Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) said on 2 October that it took part as a Silver Sponsor in Future Food Summit 2026 and presented its industrial and business offer to food and beverage manufacturers. The eighth edition of the summit was organised by the UAE Food Cluster and the UAE Food & Beverage Business Group under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. It brought together companies, suppliers and investors to discuss food security, trade, supply chains and sector growth. RAKEZ Group Chief Executive Officer Ramy Jallad described food and beverage manufacturing as an important part of the UAE’s industrial growth and said Ras Al Khaimah offered a platform for companies seeking to establish, scale and serve regional markets. The zone said it focuses on connected infrastructure, industrial solutions and practical business support. The announcement did not specify a new factory, a committed investment amount or additional production capacity. Its emphasis was on how economic zones and their existing business environment could support manufacturers as they grow, and on the conditions companies may need to operate competitively while responding to rising expectations around resource efficiency.

Puneet Jain, RAKEZ chief strategy officer, joined a summit panel titled “The Net-Zero Food Chain: Building Circular, Sustainable Systems.” He discussed how economic zones may enable circular production by bringing manufacturers, suppliers, logistics providers, technology firms and service companies into connected ecosystems. Proximity and coordination can create opportunities for businesses to share infrastructure and resources. A by-product or material left over from one operation may, where quality and process requirements allow, become an input for another business. That model can make material flows and waste handling part of production planning rather than treating them as separate issues. Jain also stressed the need to make cleaner energy, water efficiency, waste management and resource recovery practical and commercially viable for food and beverage businesses. The panel considered water reuse, waste segregation, recycling and recovery, and ways to encourage greater exchange of resources across the food value chain. These topics connect environmental performance with operating decisions, including how firms use utilities and handle materials. The release did not report a specific deployment, measured savings or a company commitment arising from the panel, so the discussion should be understood as a set of approaches rather than a completed project.

The announcement therefore describes RAKEZ’s participation and industrial proposition, rather than a new food manufacturing project or quantified sustainability result. It said the zone engaged with manufacturers, suppliers, investors and other industry participants, outlining the business and industrial solutions available to food and beverage companies in Ras Al Khaimah. The sustainability discussion centred on collaboration and shared services: facilities, technologies and partners could help firms improve resource use while maintaining commercial competitiveness. Making that work would require companies to match the quality, timing and volume of recovered materials with another producer’s needs. Not every by-product can be reused, and the release did not identify a specific material exchange or operating arrangement. Nor did it provide a project schedule, financial value, target for water reuse or emissions figure. Those limits matter when assessing the announcement’s economic significance. Circular production can potentially reduce waste and improve resource productivity, but outcomes depend on implementation and evidence from operating businesses. RAKEZ said its participation supported the UAE National Food Security Strategy 2051 and a more resilient food ecosystem. Any assessment of resulting impact would require later information about facilities, partnerships, adoption and measured performance, none of which was quantified in this summit announcement.
