Story details
Scottish Government statistics show just over 17,000 new homes were completed in the 12 months to the end of June 2026, down 11% from the previous year and the lowest level since 2015. Around 15,500 homes were started, a 2% annual decline and the lowest number of starts since 2013.
The affordable housing programme recorded about 6,800 completions in the same year, while 36,500 homes had been delivered towards Scotland’s 110,000-home affordable target for 2032. The official release says annual gains in affordable approvals and starts came from low bases; it reports housing supply measures and does not establish why overall private and social completions fell.
