Story details
Statistics Norway reported a seasonally adjusted sickness absence rate of 6.68% for resident employees aged 16–69 in the second quarter of 2026. The rate was 0.6% higher than in the previous quarter on the source’s relative-change measure. Self-certified absence was 1.02%, while doctor-certified absence was 5.67%.
The seasonally adjusted rate was 5.11% for men and 8.53% for women. SSB combines a business sample survey for self-certified absence with NAV’s doctor-certification register and employment data. The measure excludes self-employed people and does not include child illness or parental and maternity leave; it does not explain the reasons for absence.
