Norway retail sales volume edges up 0.6% in August
Norway’s seasonally adjusted retail volume index rose 0.6% in August, while its calendar-adjusted level was 1.0% below August 2025; wholesale volumes rose 3.4% year on year.
Statistics Norway’s volume index for retail trade increased 0.6% between July and August 2026 after seasonal adjustment. The calendar-adjusted retail index remained 1.0% below August 2025. Wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles, was up 1.1% on the month and 3.4% over the year.
Retail categories diverged: fuel sales volume rose 5.3% from July but was 15.6% below a year earlier, while food and beverage retail rose 0.7% monthly and fell 1.1% annually. These are volume-index changes with separate seasonal and calendar adjustments, not changes in nominal sales revenue.
INSEE data for 2022 put the share of the region’s most polluting car classes at 29.8%, rising to 48.7% among car-owning households with the lowest incomes.
INE reported that the index fell 1.8% from the preceding quarter in the fourth quarter of 2026. The balance of firms expecting favorable conditions narrowed to 5.7 points.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page. The preference cookie lasts six months; advertising measurement and personalization stay off.
