Statistics Norway reported 22,056,664 rail passenger boardings in April–June 2026, 2.9% above the same quarter in 2025. Passenger transport performance, measured in passenger-kilometres, was 1,010,449,773, down 1.2%. The different movements show that a higher number of boardings did not translate into more passenger distance traveled.
Rail freight carried 7,996,786 tonnes, down 6.0%; freight performance fell 5.9% to 889,615,522 tonne-kilometres. The statistics include services by foreign operators and cross-border traffic. SSB flags a change in passenger-counting method and says 2025 passenger figures were corrected on 1 June 2026.
