Nigeria maps restoration priorities for the 4.9-million-hectare Oshin-Oyi catchment
An ACReSAL assessment says about 48% of the catchment faces high soil-loss risk; stakeholders prioritised erosion control, flood management and climate-smart farming.
Nigeria’s ACReSAL project reported on 18 October about stakeholder work on a Strategic Catchment Management Plan for Oshin-Oyi. The catchment covers approximately 4.9 million hectares across parts of Kwara, Kogi and Niger states and supports agriculture, livestock systems and urban water networks.
The assessment said about 48% of the catchment faces high soil-loss risk and some communities along the Niger floodplain experience recurring floods. Proposed priorities include gully-erosion control, afforestation, flood management, river desiltation, climate-smart agriculture and improved clean-water access. These are planned interventions, not completed works.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page.
