Transport Canada announced up to C$254 million in federal support for the Saint John Trade Corridor project on 21 October. The work covers expanded warehouse capacity, a new Canada Border Services Agency container examination facility, dredging and marine-service upgrades, and shoreline stabilization at the Bayshore Rail Terminal.

The package also includes continuously welded rail on 103 kilometres of New Brunswick Southern Railway track and a reconstruction of Simms Corner to separate road and rail traffic. The government says the project is intended to enable annual port capacity of 850,000 to 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units; that is a project target, not current throughput.
