Story details

Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı said on 14 September 2026 that infrastructure works at the Şırnak Silopi Greenhouse Organised Agriculture Zone had been completed at a cost of TL202 million and opened to investors. According to the ministry, the zone contains 42 modern greenhouse plots and nine plots for agriculture-based industry. Yumaklı projected that the site would provide 1,000 direct jobs, 75% of them for women, and contribute TL1.2bn to the economy each year. These figures are the minister’s forward-looking estimates; the release does not present them as jobs already created or measured annual income.

The announcement reports completion of the infrastructure investment and the opening of the site to investors, but gives no occupancy rate, operator names, crop mix or timetable for production to begin. Bringing greenhouse and agriculture-based industrial plots together is part of the organised agriculture zone model, which aims to link farming with downstream processing. The release provides no per-plot investment cost or production capacity, so later operator and output data would be needed to assess the economic effects. This report keeps the announced cost, plot count and projected outcomes distinct.
