Story details
Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said on 10 September 2026 that Türkiye and China had signed a protocol on bay-leaf exports. Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı, who attended the signing ceremony, described bay leaf as a value-added product in which Türkiye is a leading producer. He said Türkiye’s annual bay-leaf exports were about US$60 million; the statement refers to exports overall and does not give the current value of shipments to China. The ministry said the protocol was important for opening further markets to agricultural products produced in Türkiye.
Yumaklı said the protocol was expected to help Turkish agricultural products reach China’s market. The source confirms a market-access protocol for bay leaves but gives no effective date, shipment volume, technical or phytosanitary conditions, participating companies or prices. The minister also noted that protocols for almonds and other products had been signed during a visit to China the previous October. This report records the new signing and the minister’s estimate of the sector’s existing export scale; it does not imply that a specific Chinese order has been placed or that export growth has already occurred.
