Story details
More than £296 million in agricultural support had been paid to Scottish farmers and crofters since the start of September, the government said on 18 September. By 11 September, Basic Payment Scheme and Greening payments had reached 81% of anticipated eligible businesses. The payment window runs until July 2027.
The Basic Payment Scheme supplements farm income, while Greening payments encourage practices intended to benefit the environment and climate. Recipients of the £21.4 million Future Farming Investment Scheme must confirm that they met award terms before their applications can be considered. The £296 million is money already paid by that date, not a new commitment or final annual total.
