Story details

The Roads General Authority said on 19 October that expansion-joint work on bridges had reached 86.2% completion across 22 projects in the 2026 road-maintenance programme. More than 6,500 linear metres had been completed. Asphalt joints were 99.5% complete, while mechanical joints designed for 100–200 millimetres of movement were finished.

Work on 50–100 millimetre mechanical joints reached 87.2%; more than 20% of joints under 50 millimetres were complete, with 938 metres still under construction in that group. The authority says the joints accommodate temperature-related movement and help keep water out of structures. Year-end completion is a target for remaining work, not a completed result.
