Story details

Pakistan’s National Assembly Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research recommended on October 1 that the minimum support price for wheat be set at Rs5,000 or more per 40 kilograms. It also called for a uniform farmer-subsidy mechanism across the country instead of differing provincial approaches. The figure is a committee recommendation, not an adopted government price.

The committee said the National Wheat Policy for 2026–2030 should be announced before the sowing season begins. The ministry told members it planned consultations with provincial governments within a week and intended to announce the policy before sowing. Members also raised input costs, seed quality, storage and marketing arrangements following PASSCO’s closure; the release did not present a finalized national policy.
