Story details
The State Bank of Pakistan issued instructions to authorized banks on October 2 for implementing a 200,000-metric-tonne sugar export quota. The central bank said the Economic Coordination Committee had approved the quota and the federal cabinet had ratified it. Banks must process eligible mills’ financial-instrument requests in line with mill-specific allocations made by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association.
Exports must be shipped by sea and paid for through a sight letter of credit or advance payment; the circular set no shipment deadline. Banks are required to report export transactions and shipment updates to the central bank each week. The notice clarifies the quota’s financial and reporting procedures; it does not say that the full amount has been exported.
