Nigeria’s state internally generated revenue rises 40.93% in 2025
Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory generated a combined ₦5.15 trillion in internally generated revenue in 2025, up 40.93% from ₦3.65 trillion in 2024, according to a National Bureau of Statistics report released on 24 September.

Story details
Lagos reported the highest amount at ₦1.77 trillion, followed by Rivers at ₦428.42 billion and Enugu at ₦406.77 billion. Pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) collections were ₦2.64 trillion. The report said PAYE represented 69.51% of state tax revenue, while tax revenue made up 73.64% of total internally generated revenue.
NBS said the Joint Revenue Board compiled the figures from official records and state submissions, with reconciliation still ongoing. Internally generated revenue measures collections from states’ own sources; it should not be confused with federal allocations. The nominal increase is not an inflation-adjusted measure of real growth.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page. The preference cookie lasts six months; advertising measurement and personalization stay off.
