Nigeria’s Ministry of Livestock Development unveiled revised agricultural curricula and national occupational standards for technical and vocational institutions and Colleges of Education on 19 October. Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha said the changes are intended to align education more closely with industry needs, citing livestock’s role in food security, employment and industrial development.

The ministry said the programme targets practical competencies in animal production and breeding, nutrition, animal health, biosecurity, pasture development, processing and marketing. Maiha put the livestock market’s value at about $3.2 billion. The announcement also said effective implementation would depend on capable trainers, suitable equipment, meaningful assessment and workplace learning opportunities.
