Grid-connected power plants in Nigeria had an average of 4,758 megawatts available for dispatch in August 2026 and average hourly generation of 4,102 megawatts, according to an operational factsheet published by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on September 24. NERC said this represented 86% of available capacity.
The factsheet reported monthly average lower and upper grid frequencies of 49.34 and 50.67 hertz, outside the prescribed 49.75–50.25 hertz range. Monthly average lower and upper grid voltages were 302.29 and 349.68 kilovolts, also outside the 313.50–346.50 kilovolt limits. Afam 2, Kainji 1 and Egbin 1 recorded load factors of 99%, 98% and 96%, respectively. These are NERC’s measurements for August, not an annual result or a claim about conditions at all times.

Figures are taken from NERC’s August 2026 factsheet. The 4,102 MW figure is average hourly generation power, not MW per hour or monthly MWh. Available capacity differs from installed capacity. The 86% load factor is the rounded figure reported in the factsheet.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page.
