Story details

More than 500 farmers in Nigeria’s Anambra state received 2,000 improved palm seedlings in a distribution reported by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation on 12 October. The programme was carried out by the state Ministry of Environment, the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu, in neighbouring Ebonyi state, and TechSave Nigeria. The handover took place at the state ministry’s premises in Awka, and the report says farm implements were also provided.

State Environment Commissioner Clem Aguiyi linked tree planting to Anambra’s exposure to erosion and flooding. A representative of the programme facilitator said beneficiaries were selected across the state’s 21 local government areas and that the seedlings are expected to reach full maturity in three years. The announcement provided no yield or income estimates, so those remain programme aims rather than measured results.
