Story details
Mauritania’s Prime Minister El Moctar Ould Djay chaired an interministerial meeting on October 2 to review a draft law on the crafts sector. The Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) said the draft followed consultations intended to complete the legal framework for the sector and strengthen its economic, social and cultural role.
The proposal would regulate crafts businesses, ease professionalisation, expand access to finance and promotion, establish a National Fund for the Promotion of Crafts, and extend incentives available to small businesses and start-ups to crafts entrepreneurs. At the end of the meeting, the prime minister ordered the text revised in light of comments. AMI did not report enactment or the fund’s establishment and operation, so the measures remain proposals rather than current rules or available financing.
