Story details
Mali’s Ministry of Industry and Trade met livestock and meat-chain representatives on October 5 as meat prices remained high. A government statement published October 6 said the national average price for a kilogram of bone-in meat rose from FCFA 3,211 at the end of April to FCFA 3,502 over September 28–October 4.
In Bamako, bone-in meat was reported at FCFA 4,300–4,500 a kilogram, while boneless meat was around FCFA 5,000. Measures identified since April included opening and securing livestock markets in the interior, limiting exports, improving livestock-feed availability and establishing new secure markets near Bamako; prices nevertheless increased. The latest meeting discussed production and transport costs, market supply and security along livestock routes. The consultation is to meet weekly; the statement reports no subsequent price decline or newly implemented measure.
