Story details

The Central Bank of Kuwait’s September statement of account, listed by the bank on 7 October 2026, records total assets of KWD 8,543.7 million at 30 September. The comparative column shows KWD 8,689.1 million at 31 August. Total liabilities equal total assets at each date. These are balances at two month-ends, not monthly averages or amounts of money earned during September. The statement covers the central bank’s own balance sheet rather than the whole banking system.

The largest listed asset line combines cash balances, accounts, bonds, certificates of deposit, treasury bills and deposits in foreign currency. It stood at KWD 7,980.2 million at 30 September, compared with KWD 8,416.8 million at 31 August. The statement also lists KWD 360.3 million in deposits, current accounts and loans with local banks and financial institutions, against KWD 80.2 million in August. Gold was KWD 31.7 million at both dates; local bonds and public-debt instruments were zero.

On the liabilities side, currency in circulation was KWD 1,950.2 million at the end of September and KWD 1,979.6 million at the end of August. Government accounts were KWD 1,209.3 million and KWD 1,276.4 million, respectively. Local banks’ accounts and deposits were KWD 2,460.9 million at the September date and KWD 2,495.6 million at the August date. The statement records profit for the year as zero for September and KWD 399.3 million for August; that line is not a monthly profit flow.

The figures describe the composition of the Central Bank of Kuwait’s balance sheet at the dates printed in the statement. The release does not explain the reasons for individual changes, identify counterparties, or say whether movements reflect transactions, valuation, reclassification or timing. It supports a factual comparison of reported balances, but not a causal explanation about monetary policy, government financing, banking liquidity or currency demand. Each amount remains in million Kuwaiti dinars, with no conversion added.

The statement reports contra accounts of KWD 7,341.8 million at 30 September and KWD 7,241.9 million at 31 August. These are shown separately from the totals for assets and liabilities and should not be treated as another asset balance. The reference dates are month-end snapshots, so they do not show the path of balances within either month. Assessing daily movements would require a different, higher-frequency source.

The bank describes its monthly Statement of Account as a report of its own balance-sheet assets and liabilities. The figures here are transcribed from the September statement’s printed date columns, with the August statement used to cross-check the preceding month. The report does not infer a policy change, future liquidity trend or economic outcome from these balances. Readers should keep the central bank’s statement separate from the broader monetary bulletin and from commercial-bank statistics.
