Story details

Pomegranate harvesting has started in Jordan’s Koura District in Irbid. The agriculture directorate said orchards cover about 2,000 dunums and support local growers as well as small food and natural-product businesses. Harvest began in warmer valleys and is expected to continue through mid-December as fruit ripens at different times across the district.

Koura produces several varieties, including Halawi, Hammadi and Ziqlabi. Alongside fresh sales, pomegranates are processed into juice, traditional molasses, vinegar, jam, seed oil, soap and tea. The district’s agricultural extension program advises growers on pruning, soil management and pest control to improve orchard management and yields.
