Story details
Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed construction contracts on August 26, 2026, for two projects to extend natural gas supply to the Al-Muwaqqar and Al-Rawdhah industrial cities. The ministry said the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development would provide a combined $70 million in support and financing. Al-Muwaqqar is an industrial area east of Amman; Al-Rawdhah is in the Ma'an Development Zone. The announcement records a contract step toward building pipelines and extending gas supply. It does not say gas has reached factories in either location.
The ministry said the projects are intended to give industry an alternative energy source, lower operating costs, support production and new production lines, and improve the industrial cities' ability to attract investment. These are stated aims and expected effects, not measured savings, new jobs or output already achieved. The notice gives no results on the scope of gas connections, the start of deliveries or the number of factories that would use the supply. Signing construction contracts should therefore not be presented as completed infrastructure or an operating gas service.
The notices name the contractors and the cities served, but an early sentence in the English release conflicts with its detailed award paragraph over which company is linked to which city. The Arabic version does not resolve that inconsistency with enough certainty to make a reliable city-by-city attribution here, so the contractors are not assigned to either project in this article. A TAQA Arabia executive said the line to Al-Rawdhah would extend 14 kilometres; that is the planned line length and does not indicate that gas deliveries have begun.
The $70 million is the combined support amount for the two projects; the source does not split it into a separate value for each contract. The fund's financing is described as supporting the signed project agreements under a memorandum with the Jordanian government. The notice does not say how much has been disbursed or how the budget is allocated between cost categories. The total should therefore be read as a joint financing framework. Only the 14-kilometre line length is assigned to Al-Rawdhah; no length is reported for the Al-Muwaqqar line.
The contracts were announced as part of Jordan's plan to extend gas infrastructure to industrial areas. Neither notice specifies the construction schedule, the first gas date or a completion percentage, so those details require later verification. Evaluating whether energy costs fall would also require evidence on factories' previous fuels, consumption and new supply prices. The confirmed development for now is the signing of construction contracts for gas infrastructure in two industrial cities and the announcement of $70 million in combined project financing.
