Story details

France’s Ministry of Economy and Finance presented its 2027 draft budget and social-security financing bill on October 1. The plan targets a public deficit of 5% of GDP in 2027, down from an expected 5.4% in 2026. It assumes 1% growth next year; the ministry’s 2026 growth estimate was revised to 0.5%.

The government proposes a total €54 billion fiscal adjustment, including €43 billion in measures contained in the two bills. The ministry expects interest costs to reach €91.2 billion in 2027. These are draft targets and government estimates: the budget has been presented for the legislative process and is not yet enacted.
