Story details
The Food Export Council reported that Egypt’s food-industry exports reached $5.128 billion from January through August 2026, the highest value for the first eight months of a year in the sector’s history. SIS published the council’s figures on 27 September. The total compared with $4.629 billion in the same period of 2025, an increase of about $499 million or 10.8%. SIS said 2,731 active exporting companies shipped to 179 markets, and 110 markets increased imports of Egyptian food products. These are council figures as relayed by SIS; the council’s separate underlying data release was not located for this story.
Growth varied by period and destination. First-quarter exports were $1.769 billion, up 7.8% from the comparable 2025 quarter. The second quarter reached about $2.050 billion, a 15.6% increase. July exports were $681 million, up 8.9%, and August was about $628 million, up 6.7%. Arab countries received $2.419 billion, about 47% of the total; the European Union received $1.124 billion, up 16% year on year and about 22% of the total. Exports to the United States were about $334 million, while non-Arab African markets received $356 million. These groupings show the council’s reported market distribution; they do not mean all destinations grew at the same pace.
Saudi Arabia was the largest single-country destination at approximately $423 million, up 18% or $64 million from the first eight months of 2025. The United States ranked second at about $334 million and Jordan third at $228 million; Libya received $226 million and Sudan $214 million. Spain recorded a particularly strong rise, with exports nearly doubling to about $208 million. On the product side, frozen strawberries led at $617 million, followed by beverage concentrates at $419 million and edible oils at $351 million. Chocolate exports nearly doubled to about $301 million, while sugar reached $240 million and prepared animal feed $238 million. The council’s figures also put the top 30 products at about 89% of exports. The period covers eight months only; the report gives no full-year 2026 outcome or forecast.
