Story details
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) received 163 climate-risk measures prepared by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) on September 1. The recommendations address possible El Niño effects on the 2026/27 crop season and propose ongoing steps to prevent, adapt to and reduce agricultural losses.
The work was prepared by about 50 Embrapa specialists through a ministry-established El Niño working group that also included the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Of the 163 proposals, 14 apply across agriculture, 139 are tailored to production segments and 10 support public-policy programmes. MAPA said the report does not predetermine the effects on any particular region, crop or production system.
