Story details
In a statement dated 1 October, UNICEF said a drone strike hit the Al Mina Al Bari shelter for internally displaced people in Al Obeid, Sudan’s North Kordofan State, late on 30 September. The agency reported that one boy was killed and 12 children were injured, including five boys and seven girls. UNICEF presented the figures as reported and did not identify who carried out the strike.
UNICEF also said more than 400 children were reportedly killed or injured in Sudan between January and September 2026, with drone attacks responsible for a significant share of those casualties. It said strikes had damaged homes and civilian infrastructure, including schools, health facilities, water systems and markets. These figures and assessments are attributed to UNICEF; the release did not provide an independent verification method or claim a complete nationwide count.
