Story details

Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB) announced on 27 September that it had issued a five-year, $500 million sukuk. Emirates News Agency reported a final yield of 5.85 per cent, 105 basis points above the five-year US Treasury yield. The bank said the orderbook reached $1.3 billion, or 2.6 times the issue size.

In comments carried by WAM, SIB executives placed the transaction in the context of investor demand and the bank’s funding strategy. Orders and pricing for this single transaction do not describe the entire sukuk market or establish the bank’s future funding costs. A Nasdaq Dubai admission notice dated 29 September refers to the same issuance and ISIN; it is not counted here as a separate event.
