Story details

The Scottish Government announced on 8 October that £10 million would be invested in the college sector through its Raising Income through Skills and Education (RISE) initiative. The programme aims to make training available to as many as 2,400 parents at colleges across Scotland so they can enter or progress in work. It targets families considered at greatest risk of poverty.

Alongside courses, the initiative is intended to unlock additional help with childcare and transport costs to reduce barriers to participation. The figure of 2,400 is a programme target or capacity, not a count of people who have already enrolled or found work. The government says the funding comes through its 2026–2031 child-poverty delivery plan, Bringing Hope, Building Futures.
