Story details
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) announced a final investment decision on 2 October for the Kilmarnock South battery project in South Ayrshire. Construction is under way on the four-hour lithium-ion facility, rated at 350 MW and 1,400 MWh, with commercial operation expected in the first quarter of 2028.
CIP said the project carries an investment commitment of more than EUR 270 million. Once operational, it is intended to store surplus Scottish wind power and release it when the grid has capacity. The 1.85 GW and 4.4 GWh figures in the announcement describe CIP’s four Scottish battery projects together at full commissioning, not capacity already operating.
