Story details

The sixth Future Minerals Forum is scheduled for Riyadh on 12–14 January 2027. In an announcement dated 4 October, the Saudi Press Agency said the theme is global collaboration for resilient mineral supply chains. The programme is set to address finance, accelerating projects and shortening the route from project development to production. These are agenda priorities: the announcement does not say that a particular investment has been approved or that a mine has begun operating.

The announcement also recaps the fifth forum, held in 2026. Organiser figures cited by SPA put attendance above 21,500 people from 175 countries. Representatives from 91 countries and more than 64 governmental and non-governmental organisations took part. The event announced 132 agreements and memoranda of understanding with a combined stated value above USD 26.7 billion. Those are announced memorandum values; they should not be read as cash paid, completed investment or operating mine capacity.

SPA also reported that Saudi mineral exploration spending rose from USD 54.7 million in 2020 to approximately USD 362.7 million in 2025, a record level. This is an annual flow for exploration spending. It is not the value of mineral output, a reserve estimate, the area licensed or a count of confirmed discoveries. The accompanying data series therefore contains only the two comparison years stated by the source and does not infer values for intervening years.

The economic relevance is that the forum plans to connect supply-chain resilience with project finance and development timelines. Attendance and the announced face value of memoranda do not guarantee implementation. Financing decisions still depend on permits, infrastructure, geology, costs, environmental review and buyer demand. The 2027 dates and agenda are scheduled event information; the attendance, agreement and spending figures describe reported outcomes or historical spending from the 2026 forum and earlier periods. Keeping those categories separate matters when assessing what the announcement does—and does not—establish.
