Story details

Russia’s industrial production index was unchanged at 100.0% of its year-earlier level in January-August 2026, according to data Rosstat published on September 23. In August, the index stood at 99.4%, down 0.6% from both August 2025 and July 2026. The indicator is a composite production index covering mining, manufacturing, energy utilities, water and waste activities.

Energy components moved in different directions: natural gas output rose 3.8% and liquefied natural gas output 13.7% over the eight-month period. Electricity generation fell 0.2%; thermal power generation declined 3.6%, while hydropower rose 10.0% and nuclear generation 2.6%. These are separate physical output series and do not replace the broader industrial index. Rosstat withholds some data on oil extraction and petroleum-product production; its index also excludes four federal territories from geographic coverage.

Rosstat also reported production of 93.3 million semiconductor components in January-August, 2.1 times the year-earlier level. August output was 12.6 million units, about twice the same month a year before. The series counts units; it does not measure production value or capacity for advanced logic chips.
