Story details
The Energy Year published an interview with Occidental (Oxy) president and CEO Richard Jackson on 15 September 2026. Jackson described the company’s next phase in terms of balance-sheet strength, cost efficiency and sustainable cash flow. The focus is not simply on producing more oil, but on improving recovery from existing resources, lowering decline rates and generating more value from each asset.
Jackson said 88% of Oxy’s resource portfolio is in the United States and that it is split roughly evenly between conventional and unconventional resources. Those percentages describe the company’s resource portfolio; they should not be read as shares of current production or as a reserve total. He also said Oxy has more than 50 years of experience with CO₂ enhanced oil recovery in conventional fields.
The interview presents advanced recovery as a strategy combining established methods such as waterflooding and CO₂ use with newer techniques in shale assets. Jackson also said demand from data centres and AI could intersect with Oxy’s capabilities in energy, infrastructure, water and carbon management. These are the CEO’s strategic views; the interview does not announce a specific new project, volume target or independently verified production increase.
