Story details
The state news agency Agence Congolaise d’Information reported on 8 October that the Council of Ministers, at its 7 October meeting, approved three draft decrees concerning the Lidongo and Marine XXIX-A areas held by state oil company SNPC and the Marine XXIV permit operated by ENI Congo. Hydrocarbons Minister Stev Simplice Onanga said the boundaries of the adjacent Lidongo and Marine XXIX-A areas are to be aligned under a protocol agreed by Mercuria Energy and Oriental Energy in February 2026.
One draft would extend the Lidongo production permit by ten years, through 25 September 2046. ACI reported that the extension was requested to facilitate necessary investment and accelerate production from discovered resources. A third measure would revise the coordinates of Marine XXIV to address a partial overlap with a marine protected area. The report gives no new investment amount, output volume or effective date; it describes draft decrees approved by the council.
