Story details
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) said in a 1 October release that Reboot the Earth 2026 took place in Qatar from 23 to 26 September. The four-day hackathon was led by the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology and the Food and Agriculture Organization, and hosted by CMU-Q. It brought together 110 participants from Qatar, including high-school and university students and industry professionals, in 22 teams.
Under a sustainability and environmental innovation theme, teams worked on two challenges: using AI to assess land and crop suitability, or monitoring cold chains to reduce food loss. CMU-Q said all 22 teams built and deployed functional prototypes and that two teams were named co-champions. The event confirms prototype development; the release gives no evidence that the tools entered commercial use or produced a measured reduction in food loss.
