Qatar highlights digital transformation and AI at UN development debate
Qatar described digital transformation and artificial intelligence as drivers of economic and social development in a statement to the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee on 12 October. Its representative framed the remarks around Qatar National Vision 2030 and Digital Agenda 2030; the statement did not announce a new programme or investment.
Sheikh Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Thani, a member of Qatar’s delegation, addressed digital transformation and artificial intelligence during the Second Committee discussions at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 12 October 2026. Qatar News Agency said the statement was made under the agenda item on information and communications technologies for sustainable development.
Al-Thani linked Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030 to secure digital infrastructure, economic diversification and inclusion. He cited the national AI strategy, GOV AI, the TASMU Smart Qatar programme and Qai, the national AI company announced in December 2025. The remarks restated policy priorities and earlier initiatives; they set out no new budget, capacity or implementation timetable.
At the BUILD 2026 conference, the communications minister cited power, connectivity, cloud access and advanced chips as constraints on local AI growth.

Measurement and privacy details
Google Analytics measurement starts only if you allow it. After consent, automatic measurement may cover scrolls, outbound link clicks, downloads, video engagement, site searches and basic form interactions; search terms may be detected from URL parameters. This site’s own code does not send form field values; email redaction in automatic measurement is best-effort, not guaranteed. Our manual page-view event uses a cleaned URL. You can change your choice later. Visits that begin with consent may also send numeric LCP, INP and CLS performance measurements after Analytics loads. A first or later grant starts this on the next page load; withdrawing consent stops these performance reports for this page. The preference cookie lasts six months; advertising measurement and personalization stay off.
