Story details

New Zealand exported NZ$32.5 billion of goods and services and imported NZ$32.4 billion in the June 2026 quarter, Stats NZ said in a release on 3 September. Two-way trade totalled NZ$64.9 billion. Compared with the June 2025 quarter, exports were up 14% and imports 18%. Goods exports were NZ$24.3 billion and services exports NZ$8.2 billion; goods imports were NZ$23.4 billion and services imports NZ$9.0 billion. These totals cover goods and services flows for the quarter and should be distinguished from the separate monthly merchandise trade series.

Services exports rose NZ$1.1 billion from the June quarter a year earlier to NZ$8.2 billion. The separate overseas trade indexes compare the June 2026 quarter with the March 2026 quarter. In that quarterly comparison, dairy prices rose 3.3%, volumes 3.9% and values 2.9%; meat prices increased 4.5%, with volumes and values each up 10%. Import prices for petroleum and petroleum products rose 79%, while volumes fell 9% and values increased 63%. Prices are unadjusted; dairy and meat volumes and values are seasonally adjusted. The petroleum volume and value comparisons are not seasonally adjusted. These indexes use a different comparison period from the annual trade totals in the first paragraph.
