Story details

Norway’s government proposed on 7 October creating a new register that would be updated automatically and continuously from companies’ digital shareholder ledgers. Brønnøysund Register Centre would operate it, replacing the tax administration’s shareholder register, which is currently updated annually, and reducing repeated reporting of the same information to different agencies.

The 2027 budget proposal includes NOK 100 million to begin the project, which the Tax Administration and Brønnøysund would develop jointly. Completion is planned by the end of 2030, with a total cost frame of NOK 1.51 billion. The ministry says the register is intended to give authorities more current ownership data and reduce reporting for companies. These are plans and proposed costs for a system not yet built.
