Story details

Norway’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food said on 9 October that the nationwide 2026 potato harvest is forecast to be 20% larger than last year and 14% above the 2002–2025 average. The ministry attributed the expected increase to better growing conditions and a larger planted area, and said both production and consumption of Norwegian potatoes were rising.

The forecast was prepared by the Norwegian Horticultural Growers’ Cooperation Council, based on samples taken nationwide by NLR and compiled by HOFF. The ministry expects production in eastern Norway to remain around last year’s level, while Trøndelag is expected to have a better crop than in 2025. The market balance will only be assessed after the 1 November stock count, so the forecast is not a final production total.
