Story details

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has called for emergency assistance and road repairs in Ideato North/South, Imo State, after a motion describing flooding, erosion and disrupted access to neighbouring Abia State. The National Assembly Library Trust Fund published its account on 22 October.

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who represents the constituency, said about 22 communities had been cut off and residents faced difficulty reaching markets, schools and healthcare. He identified Urualla, Apo, Umueshi and Dimako among affected places. The scale of disruption is the lawmaker’s account, not a separate field survey by Haber Paper.

The House urged federal agencies to assess the impact, provide food, medical and shelter supplies and initiate urgent repairs on damaged corridors linking Ideato communities to Abia. It also sought cooperation with the Ecological Project Office and the environment ministry on longer-term soil conservation and flood-mitigation engineering.

The intervention sought combines immediate access and relief with more durable drainage and erosion measures. The source does not establish that repairs have begun, supplies have been delivered or a funding allocation has been approved. It gives no exact separate sitting date, contract cost or audited damage total; the event is therefore recorded for October rather than assigned an unsupported day.
