Story details

NextEra Energy said on September 8 that it and the U.S. Department of Energy had reached a combined conditional commitment and financial close on a loan of up to US$1.9 billion to support restarting Duane Arnold Energy Center. The Iowa plant has 615 MW of capacity.

The company targets a restart no later than the first quarter of 2029, subject to regulatory approvals. A study cited by NextEra estimates the restart could produce more than US$9 billion in economic benefits for Iowa over 25 years; this is a projection, not realised revenue.
