Story details
The IFC said on October 1 that 30 multilateral development banks and development finance institutions had endorsed updated joint methods for measuring private finance. It is the first revision to the mobilization method since 2018. The package clarifies attribution in transactions involving multiple institutions and adds indicators for public and portfolio-based mobilization.
A new “generation” indicator estimates finance made available for development because of an institution’s balance sheet, credit rating or other attributes. A separate “catalyzation” method for estimating private finance that follows institutional activity remains under development. The IFC did not report a new investment total calculated under the revised methods.
