Story details

Mauritania’s Ministry of Public Service and Labour and the International Labour Organization opened two consultation workshops in Nouakchott on October 5, covering labour inspection and occupational safety and health. The first, held on October 5–6, addresses improving the effectiveness of the labour-inspection system. The second, scheduled for October 7–9, concerns a national policy on occupational safety and health for workers.

The ministry told AMI that earlier cooperation with the ILO included a diagnostic of the inspection system and preparation of a national occupational safety and health dossier. The workshops are intended to develop capacity and inspection mechanisms, improve legal compliance, protect workers’ rights and prevent disputes. The agency described consultation and policy development, not an adopted new policy or inspection outcomes.
