Story details
Kuwait’s minister of electricity, water and renewable energy, Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, said the maximum electrical load recorded during Summer 2026 was 17,540 megawatts. In a September 15 ministry statement, that was 70 MW below the 17,610 MW peak in Summer 2025. Compared with the 17,640 MW recorded in 2024, the decline continued for a second consecutive year.
The ministry said new facilities added 1,059 MW of electrical load between the 2024 and 2025 summer seasons and another 1,019 MW through Summer 2026, for a two-year increase of 2,078 MW. It cited shorter government working hours, factory shutdowns during peak periods and the “Wafer” conservation campaign among measures used to manage demand. The minister said these steps helped limit peak load; the statement does not offer an independent analysis assigning the decline to a single cause.
