Story details
The Presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo said President Félix Tshisekedi received a delegation from the Republic of the Congo in Kinshasa on 9 October. Led by Deputy Prime Minister Jean-Jacques Bouya, responsible for coordinating development infrastructure and territorial planning, the delegation discussed the progress and implementation schedule for a planned road–rail bridge between Kinshasa and Brazzaville.
DR Congo’s Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, John Banza Lunda, said after the meeting that the two countries had set a timetable to begin work in June 2027. The presidency said preparations would continue so that the two countries’ leaders could jointly launch the construction site. The announcement records a future start plan reported by the governments; it does not say that construction has begun.
The project is intended to connect the two capitals, which face each other across the Congo River, by road and rail. The DR Congo presidency said the bridge could ease crossings, speed the movement of people and goods, and strengthen economic exchange between the countries. The release gave no total cost, financing structure, bridge capacity, rail operating arrangements or contractor details.
June 2027 is a planning milestone and does not by itself establish that project financing is complete or that all construction permits and contracts are final. The next concrete updates would clarify the joint launch and the status of technical, financial and contractual preparations.
