Story details
Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation signed a €3.3 million consulting agreement with a consortium of Germany’s Fichtner Water and Transportation and Jordan’s Engicon to advance biogas power at the West Jerash, East Jerash and Kufranja wastewater plants. The agreement is part of Phase II of a KfW-backed results-based financing program, funded with €20 million in German cooperation and a separate €10 million European Union grant.
The program includes upgrades to sludge treatment and biogas infrastructure. A future contractor is expected to build the works and operate and maintain them for 15 years. The project aims to use biogas produced during wastewater treatment to generate electricity, reduce grid dependence and operating costs, and improve effluent for agricultural irrigation, easing pressure on conventional water supplies.
