Story details
Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources discussed the National Road Map for Buildings and Construction, intended to reduce emissions from existing and new buildings. Developed under the Jordanian-German Energy Partnership with the German Energy Agency (dena), the roadmap is meant to establish a framework for more efficient, lower-emission buildings.
A ministry official said buildings and construction account for more than 40% of Jordan’s final energy consumption and over 60% of electricity consumption; more than 70% of buildings predate energy-efficiency codes. The meeting also considered amendments to make licensing energy-audit firms easier. Implementing the roadmap will require retrofits, investment in technology and public-private partnerships.
