Story details

The Iraqi government, workers’ and employers’ organizations and the International Labour Organization (ILO) launched a 2026–2029 Decent Work Country Programme on September 3. The ILO release says the framework shifts attention from recovery efforts toward long-term labour-market development.

Its three priorities are market-relevant skills and inclusive employment; support for job creation through diversification and business growth; and better work quality alongside rights-based social protection. A national tripartite committee will oversee implementation, with support from the EU and the governments of Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The release states no budget, jobs-created target or measured employment result; this is a framework for future work.
