Story details

Under the EU-funded BEIT programme, ceremonies for 100 affordable homes and a Centre for Green Building Technology took place in Ramadi on September 17 and in Mosul on September 14. UN Iraq releases followed on September 27 and 21 respectively. Together, the sites cover 200 planned homes.

UN-Habitat says the Mosul design includes climate-responsive planning, insulation, thermally efficient materials and rooftop solar; the Ramadi release also cites climate-responsive design, thermal performance and renewable energy. The centres are intended to demonstrate environmentally responsible construction. The releases report project starts, not completed or allocated homes or measured energy savings. They give no total budget or delivery schedule.
